It’s so important to have a website that looks professional. You need great copy, an excellent lay-out, nothing too complicated, Call to Action buttons, links where necessary, easy to find contacts and a site where you convert visitors to customers with ease. Visuals are a big part of any website and a very important part. The human eye is automatically drawn to a picture.
Photographs need to be good. Really good! Here are a few tips to help you get the best out of any photographs on your website.
High-Res Photographs
Don’t think about doing anything other than high-res pics. The internet is quick these days and almost everyone has fibre optics or high speed broadband. Loading time isn’t an issue anymore. Make sure you have permission to use the photograph if it isn’t your own, or credit the photographer. If it’s your own photograph and you don’t want it stolen, copyright it with a watermark or your name.
Say no to a flash website
Nobody uses flash websites anymore and if they do, mostly their visitors log straight off. A flash website is old, prevents Google from indexing your site and does not work well on a smartphone. You can use animation or movement and get a good graphic designer to help you. Make sure whatever you use, photographs or video, is professional, easy on the eye, attract and proves to be somewhat irresistible. Remember the easy to use bit, nobody wants to wait for something to download!
.JPEG file formats
Work to the perimeters of your site. Be aware of the size of the pics that can be downloaded and don’t go over the value . If your website displays images of 800 x 600, do that. Don’t go bigger, it will not look good! Also, use the .JPEG file format. JPEG looks good and is quick and easy to upload.
Give information
You can have a great photograph or graphic but make sure you have a good heading too. Nothing too wordy but something easy to see and understand. Be specific. If it’s a product, make sure the price is easy to find. If you’re selling a vacuum cleaner and are putting a pic of the vacuum cleaner up, have the price and information easily accessible. Remember, people only want to click once.
Blog, with visuals
You need more than just a gallery or portfolio on your website. If you have tons of pics, people love looking. Make sure they’re set out beautifully. Have a link with words too. A blog is a good idea as people love to follow blogs if they’re interesting. Fresh content will always drive traffic to your site. A blog also shows people that you’re more than just a photographer! Be consistent with your blog. Blog once a week, or twice a week, and keep it relevant. Never blog for the sake of just blogging but make sure you have something worthwhile to say. Blogs are great for search engine rankings and always draw readers to your site.
Dont make it zazzy
Rather show 10 fabulous photographs than 50 mediocre pics. Be selective and stylish. Make sure they’re displayed in a clean and easy on the eye manner. Make them look super professional. If you’re showing a pic of a lion, make sure the reader will respond with an ‘I have to go and see that lion’ immediate response. Less is always more, as long as it is excellent quality. If pics are small, have a ‘click to enlarge’ button.
Your website needs to attract customers to visit and then stay. You want your potential customer to keep clicking through until they buy. Make your site attractive with great content, pics and visuals. Be creative and inspirational and then make use of every possible digital marketing tool. Watch your sales boom.
