Read this article and then go and take a look at your website. If you were a visitor, would you keep clicking through? Would you buy from your own site?
You need to ask yourself these few questions.
Does my website look current and up to date?
Is it easy on the eye?
Is my website easy to navigate?
Are my contacts on each page?
Are there references and testimonials?
Are the visuals up to date?
How easy is it to purchase a product?
Is it compatible with 2017 technology and the digital world?
Websites have changed enormously in the last twenty years. You need to change yours too and update it consistently. To attract customers a website needs to be current, exciting, visual, attractive and it needs to shout out ‘NOW!’
Your customers, or potential customers, will be put off if your website looks old and dated. When a customer logs on to your site they want to be impressed. They won’t be impressed if your site looks like it was made in 2010. They will be impressed if it reflects 2017.
So what should your website have?
Your website must have great content and excellent visuals, including video if it fits in with your company. Your site must be easy to look at and easy to navigate. People only want to click once to get the info they need so make sure your website is well designed so that navigation is easy.
Your website should not be complicated. Remember, less is more. Have great content but don’t overwhelm your customer or reader. Make it simple but exciting.
Your website needs to look good on a desktop computer, a laptop, a Macbook, iPad or iPhone. People look at websites on their phones all the time so make sure your site is digitally up to date and technologically advanced.
When you updated your website, remember it is not only about looking good. It needs to drive customers to your business (SEO, SEM, Adwords, Google ads, key phrases etc) and then it needs to convert customers to sales. You need to have Social Media links and Call to Action buttons.
Keep a blog and update it constantly. Good and new content generates readers and customers.
Use original photographs, not the stock pics you find so easily online. Rather spend a bit of money but use great visuals.
Look carefully at your typeface and use the correct typography. Headings should be bold and stand out. Photographs should have information.
Remember, people only want to click through once to get the info they need. Keep it simple and easy to use.
Trends change quickly
In the past, building a website was an enormous thing. Companies would build sites and then not update them for years. Today, websites can be built quickly although they must be built well and creatively. The latest trend is to update sites constantly, with new content, blogs or pics. Keep your site updated and current.
Some websites today use video and animation. This trend is growing. If your site could do with some video footage, add it in! Don’t be scared to change.
Many sites today are interactive. You can ask an ‘online person’ a question re the product. If you are selling a product, try and make your site interactive too. This is probably going to be a big trend in the future, possibly with the use of Artificial Intelligence. Keep your eye on trends. Keep your site in trend and on trend! Your clients will appreciate it.
